Ten bucks for a little piece of lead?

Your first reaction might be to question how expensive these cubes are considering that you can go to any bait shop and buy a huge sinker for only a couple of dollars. True, this lead is lab refined to at least 100 times the purity of industrial grade lead but, to be honest, it isn't the purity that dictates the price. Lead, even very pure lead, is still a cheap metal to come by.

However, despite being cheap, and as in the case with other soft metals, lead is a challenging material to work with when the product design calls for very smooth surfaces that meet at precisely 90 degrees with no burrs or chips messing up the geometry. Each cube receives a lot of care in grinding and handling to avoid damaging its soft surfaces. You can literally dent lead by poking it with your fingernail so this tender loving care is ultimately what accounts for the higher than expected cost.
